✨LEST WE FORGET✨
As we talked about Remembrance Day with the kids, I was reminded of the poem “Flanders Fields”. I remember having to memorize it as a kid and not really understanding why I had to. Men died? Boys died? As a young girl, what does that even mean? But as I reflected today and tried to explain to my kids why we have a moment of silence to remember, it brought tears to my eyes thinking about all the lives lost and the blood that was shed for our freedom. So, wherever you are, whatever you’re doing, take a moment of silence right now, lest we forget. .
In Flanders Fields by John McCrae.
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders Fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders Fields..
